# Cockapoo Life Expectancy and Age Calculator

Not an RKC breed Medium chart Senior from 7 if 9–23 kg No UK median

A Cocker Spaniel crossed with a Poodle. Not a Royal Kennel Club breed, and there is no Cockapoo median in the 2024 UK study. Convert age by the dog's adult weight.

## How long do Cockapoos live?

This site does not publish a breed-specific UK median lifespan for the Cockapoo. There is no median for this cross in the UK veterinary study this site uses. [McMillan and colleagues, Scientific Reports (1 February 2024)](https://doi.org/10.1038/s41598-023-50458-w), give medians for 155 recognised breeds and one pooled crossbred group. Supplementary Table 3 has a single row labelled Crossbreed. That row is every crossbred dog in the analysis together, not this cross on its own. Their median survival was 12.0 years (95% confidence interval 12.0 to 12.1; 111,053 dogs). The paper also says 95% of that crossbred group were dead by 18.2 years.

Among purebreds in the same study, large dogs had a shorter median (11.9 years) than small dogs (12.7). The authors describe body size as the strongest predictor of lifespan in dogs. They do not publish that size split for named crosses. A crossbreed's lifespan still tends to follow size, which is why the calculator below asks for adult weight rather than a breed name.

There is no Cockapoo median in the 2024 UK study. The pooled crossbred median was 12.0 years, and that figure mixes every cross, not Cockapoos alone. The parent medians in Supplementary Table 3 are 13.3 years for the English Cocker Spaniel and 14 years for the Poodle. The Poodle figure is not split by Toy, Miniature and Standard. Those are midpoints from UK records, not a forecast, and a Cockapoo is not the average of its parents. The parent pages are [Cocker Spaniel](https://dogyears.info/cocker-spaniel-dog-years) and [Poodle](https://dogyears.info/poodle-dog-years).

The Royal Kennel Club [Cocker Spaniel standard](https://www.royalkennelclub.com/breed-standards/gundog/spaniel-cocker/) gives a weight of about 13–14.5 kg. Its Poodle standards give height, not weight: [Toy under 28 cm](https://www.royalkennelclub.com/breed-standards/utility/poodle-toy/), [Miniature 28–38 cm](https://www.royalkennelclub.com/breed-standards/utility/poodle-miniature/), and [Standard over 38 cm](https://www.royalkennelclub.com/breed-standards/utility/poodle-standard/). This site does not turn those parent measurements into a Cockapoo weight range.

## Cockapoo age in human years (medium band)

| Dog years | Human years | Life stage |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 1 | 15 | Adolescent |
| 2 | 24 | Adult |
| 3 | 28 | Adult |
| 5 | 36 | Adult |
| 7 | 47 | Senior begins |
| 10 | 60 | Senior |
| 13 | 74 | Geriatric |

This table is the medium band, for an adult Cockapoo of 9–23 kg. It is not a separate Cockapoo formula. Figures are The Royal Kennel Club's published medium-breed guidance, as tabulated by Purina UK. They are the same numbers as the widget when medium is selected. Want months as well? Use a decimal age in the widget (for example 7.5).

## Which size setting to use

Pick the band from the adult dog on the scales, not from the name. A Standard or Miniature Poodle parent can produce a medium or large adult. A Toy Poodle parent can produce a small one. Neither is a rule. If you do not know the adult weight yet, use the Cocker's published 13–14.5 kg as a reason to start on medium, then change the band once you have a weight.

- **Small, under 9 kg.** Senior from about 10 dog years (about 56 human years). [Open the calculator on small, age 10](https://dogyears.info/?s=small&a=10).
- **Medium, 9–23 kg.** Senior from about 7 dog years (about 47 human years). [Open the calculator on medium, age 7](https://dogyears.info/?s=medium&a=7).
- **Large, 23–41 kg.** Senior from about 5 dog years (about 36 human years). [Open the calculator on large, age 5](https://dogyears.info/?s=large&a=5).
- **Giant, over 41 kg.** Use the giant setting on the [main calculator](https://dogyears.info/?s=giant&a=5).

Those kilogram cuts are this site's size categories, not a weight the Royal Kennel Club publishes for Cockapoos. A breed page for a parent can use a different band, because recognised breeds are classified by the Club's size groups rather than by your dog's scales.

## Worked examples using this site's calculator

These are the same Royal Kennel Club medium-breed figures the homepage uses. The classic ×7 rule is only a comparison. More on that in [Is the ×7 rule real?](https://dogyears.info/dog-years-x7-rule-explained)

| Your Cockapoo | RKC human years | ×7 rule | What that stage usually means |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 3 years | 28 | 21 | Adult — ×7 understates the early years |
| 7 years | 47 | 49 | Senior begins on the medium-breed table |
| 10 years | 60 | 70 | ×7 starts to overstate |
| 13 years | 74 | 91 | Converting the years you have, not a forecast |

## When is a Cockapoo considered a senior?

It depends on adult weight. On this site a medium dog (9–23 kg) is treated as senior from about 7 dog years, about 47 human years. A dog under 9 kg is senior from about 10 (about 56). A dog of 23–41 kg is senior from about 5 (about 36). Slowing down is gradual. The senior line is a prompt for check-ups, not a switch. See the signs your dog is a senior page. See [dog life stages explained](https://dogyears.info/dog-life-stages-explained) and [small vs large breed ageing](https://dogyears.info/small-vs-large-breed-ageing).

Gradual change is common. Sudden lameness, rapid weight loss, or a new lump is the point to read [when to take your senior dog to the vet](https://dogyears.info/when-to-take-senior-dog-to-vet) rather than wait for the next routine slot. The signs to watch are on [signs your dog is a senior](https://dogyears.info/signs-your-dog-is-a-senior).

Insurers do not have to use the same senior line. Read [pet insurance for older dogs](https://dogyears.info/pet-insurance-for-older-dogs) if you are weighing cover. The two clocks do not have to match.

## Health

We have not found a Royal Kennel Club, PDSA, Dogs Trust or VetCompass page that gives Cockapoo disease rates, so this page does not list any. Conditions in the parent breeds are a reason to ask a vet, not a diagnosis for your dog. Start with the notes on the [Cocker Spaniel](https://dogyears.info/cocker-spaniel-dog-years) and [Poodle](https://dogyears.info/poodle-dog-years) pages, then take anything that worries you to the practice that knows your dog.
