Maltipoo Life Expectancy and Age Calculator
A Maltese crossed with a Poodle. Not a Royal Kennel Club breed. There is no Maltipoo median in the 2024 UK study, so the age chart follows adult weight.
How long do Maltipoos live?
This site does not publish a breed-specific UK median lifespan for the Maltipoo. There is no median for this cross in the UK veterinary study this site uses. McMillan and colleagues, Scientific Reports (1 February 2024), give medians for 155 recognised breeds and one pooled crossbred group. Supplementary Table 3 has a single row labelled Crossbreed. That row is every crossbred dog in the analysis together, not this cross on its own. Their median survival was 12.0 years (95% confidence interval 12.0 to 12.1; 111,053 dogs). The paper also says 95% of that crossbred group were dead by 18.2 years.
Among purebreds in the same study, large dogs had a shorter median (11.9 years) than small dogs (12.7). The authors describe body size as the strongest predictor of lifespan in dogs. They do not publish that size split for named crosses. A crossbreed's lifespan still tends to follow size, which is why the calculator below asks for adult weight rather than a breed name.
There is no Maltipoo median in the 2024 UK study. The pooled crossbred median was 12.0 years, for every cross together. Supplementary Table 3 gives 13.1 years for the Maltese and 14 years for the Poodle. The Poodle figure is not split by size. A Maltipoo does not inherit the average of those two numbers. Read the Maltese and Poodle pages for those medians in context.
The Royal Kennel Club Maltese standard gives a height not over 25 cm, and no weight. Poodle heights are Toy under 28 cm and Miniature 28–38 cm. This page does not invent a Maltipoo kilogram range from those heights.
Maltipoo age in human years (small band)
| Dog years | Human years | Life stage |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 15 | Adolescent |
| 2 | 24 | Adult |
| 3 | 28 | Adult |
| 6 | 40 | Adult |
| 7 | 44 | Adult |
| 10 | 56 | Senior begins |
| 13 | 68 | Senior |
| 15 | 76 | Geriatric |
This table is the small band, for an adult Maltipoo under 9 kg. Figures are The Royal Kennel Club's published small-breed guidance, as tabulated by Purina UK. They are the same numbers as the widget when small is selected. Want months as well? Use a decimal age in the widget (for example 10.5).
Which size setting to use
Both parents are small dogs on this site when the Poodle is a Toy. A Miniature Poodle parent can produce a heavier adult. Weigh the dog and use the list below. Do not average the parents' ages and call it a Maltipoo lifespan.
- Small, under 9 kg. Senior from about 10 dog years (about 56 human years). Open the calculator on small, age 10.
- Medium, 9–23 kg. Senior from about 7 dog years (about 47 human years). Open the calculator on medium, age 7.
- Large, 23–41 kg. Senior from about 5 dog years (about 36 human years). Open the calculator on large, age 5.
- Giant, over 41 kg. Use the giant setting on the main calculator.
Those kilogram cuts are this site's size categories, not a weight the Royal Kennel Club publishes for Maltipoos. A breed page for a parent can use a different band, because recognised breeds are classified by the Club's size groups rather than by your dog's scales.
Worked examples using this site's calculator
These are the same Royal Kennel Club small-breed figures the homepage uses. The classic ×7 rule is only a comparison. More on that in Is the ×7 rule real?
| Your Maltipoo | RKC human years | ×7 rule | What that stage usually means |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 years | 28 | 21 | Adult — ×7 understates the early years |
| 7 years | 44 | 49 | Still adult on the small-breed table |
| 10 years | 56 | 70 | Senior begins on the small-breed table |
| 13 years | 68 | 91 | Converting the years you have, not a forecast |
When is a Maltipoo considered a senior?
On this site a Maltipoo under 9 kg is treated as senior from about 10 dog years, about 56 human years. That is the chart on this page. If the adult dog is 9–23 kg, senior starts at about 7 (about 47). The change is gradual. Use the signs your dog is a senior page rather than a single birthday.
Gradual change is common. Sudden lameness, rapid weight loss, or a new lump is the point to read when to take your senior dog to the vet rather than wait for the next routine slot. The signs to watch are on signs your dog is a senior.
Insurers do not have to use the same senior line. Read pet insurance for older dogs if you are weighing cover. The two clocks do not have to match.

Health
There is no Maltipoo-specific UK disease list on the Royal Kennel Club, PDSA, Dogs Trust or VetCompass pages we checked, so none is invented here. Ask a vet about anything you would ask about for a Maltese or a Poodle.
